  1. Can I still purchase “Poker Probe” software on the net, as I have many times over the past 25 years? I misplaced the disk and It is still more useful than anything, such as Two Dimes, than I have yet seen. The reason, by the way, that I am arguably the best seven card stud player in the world, has been my constant reliance on your old product which has done much to separate me from the pack.

There are endless examples of how the probe has been beneficial, but there is one which stands out prominently in my mind. I was in a pot where a random but live dude raised with a seven up and then the Dunce (I am sure he needs no introduction to you. although sadly he is no longer with us) double raised with a queen, in front of me. Thee had been a queen already folded. I three bet it with the totally live split jacks and ace kicker two suited. I never missed on a single card and was full by the river.

After scooping the three-way monster, as was his wont, Jeff grumbled something about me getting in the money with the worst hand one more time. Foolishly I let my big fat ego, which I touched upon in the first paragraph, get the best of me and I declared sarcastically, that not only was I getting two to one on the money and controlling the action but my duke was actually the show down favorite as well. I had made the mistake later of proving it with Probe print-outs and thereby wising him up to the existence of such a helpful tool. Of course you would have been happy that he sprung for the 25 bucks afterwards for his own software copy, I was not. Jeff was a top player himself. This little episode demonstrates how valuable the probe is to seasoned pros, imagine how useful it must be for novices.

    1. Hi, Joe —

Since Poker Probe hasn’t been updated in 23 years and is a DOS program (that will run in Windows or using DOSbox), I’m considering putting it here at Poker1 for free download. A Windows version will eventually follow.

To replace the lost or damaged software, email diane@caro.com. Diane is director of operations. And thanks for sharing your experience!

      Straight Flushes,

      Mike Caro
