By the way, that’s a Hendredon sofa in the foreground that I bought in perfect condition at auction for $300. It’s worth over $4,000, and I sold it at a large profit after moving in with Diane. You’ll love the deals you can find in the Ozarks.

There are two DirecTV connections in the cabin, joining the seven in the house, for a total of nine. All are linked and I had DVRs on each, so if you buy the same service, you’ll be able to record from anywhere and watch in nine places. I also had the cabin wired for Internet connection from the router in the house, but you’ll probably prefer to use a wireless router these days.

In the distance, you see two doors along the wall. One leads to the bathroom, the other to the bedroom. A separate door accesses the bathroom from the bedroom, so you can enter either way.

The bedroom has two windows and a small closet. It also has one of the two DirecTV connections in the cabin.

You’re looking toward the kitchen sink, where the window is in the middle of the background. To the left of that is the cabin’s main entry door. The layout is a bit hard to explain, but very open.

There is plenty of space for two large furniture groups for seating many guests, plus this game area. Off camera to the left are the kitchen and separate doorways to the bedroom and bathroom.

Kitchen in cabin at Caro Drive

— Kitchen in cabin —

There’s space to locate the dining area toward the foreground, if you don’t want the table in the kitchen. I liked it there. This kitchen comes with a stove/oven, but without the refrigerator. There’s no garbage disposal or dishwasher in the cabin, but there is a hookup for washer and dryer.

You’ll find plenty of cabinet space by cabin standards. The floor is cedar.

The left door leads to the bathroom. You can see the bedroom through the adjacent door. At right, doors open to a small closet that I currently have outfitted for a guest computer. Off camera to the left is the kitchen; and behind you is the main cabin living area. The balcony and lake is to the right of here.

There’s a washer and dryer hookup in a separate area behind the farthest sink.

Toilet area in cabin at Caro Drive

— More cabin bathroom —

I hate having to show a photo where the toilet is the central subject, but it’s in an enclave. So, here it is, by itself. To the left is a closet with an accordion-style door.

Where you see the deteriorating, empty flower boxes in other photos — well, those were replaced in November, 2013. That happened thanks to David Todd, Diane’s brother-in-law, who is house sitting for us. It amazes me that so many people in the Ozarks have skills that we lack in the cities. David is a particular magician, and you’ll like this late addition to the cabin balcony, overlooking the lake.

A path below the cabin leads to here, where the shoreline to the right leads into the small cove and the main lake is to the left.

Cabin in winter

Snowfalls are less frequent here than in northern or midwest parts of the United States. This Missouri property is just a mile or so north of the Arkansas border.

But most years you can count on two to four snow storms. This was one of my favorite moments from 2010 — when the cabin’s stone fireplace seemed inviting.

Paddle boat in cove

— Paddle boat in cove —

This “hidden” cove is completely surrounded by the property and gets few waves (which is also true of the main lakefront here). It’s perfect for launching paddle boats. Mine is actually electric. But I’m not always lazy, so I sometimes use the peddles, instead.

What’s the catch? None, really, except what I describe. Prices here are still catching up to the rest of the country.

Yes, I agree that it’s a bargain, but only if this is what you’re looking for. The 41-acre retreat was agent listed for $740,000 in 2012.

Please read my ramblings about my adventure, the property, the area, and the lake before you decide. I hope to sell to someone who appreciates my retreat and will be happy here.

  1. Looks very nice! I’m not planning on moving for 6 more years, but when I do, your place is what I will be looking for.

  2. We used to own a cabin on Table rock years ago and I loved it then. We sold it maybe 40 years ago. I would love this place but right now in my life I’m taking care of my 99 year old mother and she won’t move from Kentucky.
I still come and look, eating my heart out every so often

  3. This is my dream compound. Our place is Just West of Carr Lane on Kings River. Really small old log cabin. Guess I should go buy a lottery ticket.

  4. Looks awesome, but will need a job in healthcare. Love the lake views and some quiet, but may need some access to civilization. As a people, we still need eachother, even for a chance to say HI.
    So love this property!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Mike, nice spread. Certainly a place I wouldn’t mind living, but I live happily in WV. Good luck selling. I’d advertise nationally in the USA Today or something similar; many are looking for a place like yours and just don’t know where to find it. V/R, Ed
