And here is why this is –
The made straight flush is associated with a burst of adrenaline, and thus an increase in the metabolic rate of the player. The player then begins to involuntarily consume more oxygen and create more carbon dioxide. This increase in carbon dioxide requires him to take deep breaths, as it gives him the sensation of breathlessness. He doesn’t even realize this, he just spontaneously starts breathing deeper to blow off the CO2.
This is pure physiology, and there is no way for the player to not do it. The only way it can be avoided is by a player who is so accustomed to poker that he does not have an adrenaline release when he hits the straight flush.
I have found that when I play my best poker, each card is valued the same. If I look at AA or 72o, I feel the same. The decision I make is different, but I feel no different about the cards. They are just different hands that are played different ways.
Excellent observation, Nicholas. Thanks for contributing it.
pp3 where can i get it Mike?
It’s out of print. I have one remaining copy somewhere, and if I find it, I’ll upload it free to Poker1.
If anyone doesn’t know what JB is talking about, “pp3″ is “Poker Plan 3″ — a series of “missions” you go on to master one aspect of poker each session.
