Beside spending money on online poker, as a poker fanatic, what would you buy online?

I've bought poker books and dvds online before. I personally think buying stuff online is more convinient.

I've collections of poker dvds, books, and card cappers to play live games.

What about you? What would you buy online and do you have poker collections?

We buy a lot of stuff online, anything from footwear, clothes, books, dvd's, poker stuff, kids toys and on my bad days even do the grocery shopping online.

I have a collection of about 10 poker books, and have a wish list a mile long.

We buy and sell stuff on ebay on a weekly basis.

My purchases have included, books, computer kit, travel (flights, carparking & hotel).

More interesting, Bifa if you would care to take a look at http://pokerzoneforums.co.uk/main/viewtopic.php?t=1226 perhaps we could swop or lend, via post.

Actually I've many more, I'd happy to loan in return reciprocally to you.

Thanks for the offer, but I think you have hit upon the problem with lending/swap books or any media source of poker knowledge. I am the same, any book which I feel is of benefit to my game I want to keep, any that I feel is way off the mark, or 'muddled in it's thinking', well I ain't gonna say, yes here try this book, it's really great.....

I'd like to nominate 'Play Poker like the Pros' by Phil Hellmuth for the don't touch this one with someone else's barge pole award.  I can honestly say the information I gained from this book in total was less than the editorial merit of a book of stamps.  I've tried to read it twice now and lost the will to live both times.

It talks about classifications of different players, without discussing the mechanics of how to classify, or what information to look for, etc.  It tries to give basis stratergies for too many forms of poker, instead of trying to be good at strategies for a more select range of games.

Frankly I'll keep it, not because it was a present from the wife (I have given her strict instructions to ask before buying me any poker material in future), but because maybe one day I'll pick it up and have an EUREKA moment.

Thank you, that book was total garbage.  I'm not a pro but i think i can firmly disagree with some of the stuff in there.  JUNK!

Biffa, why do you have to buy the book to find out if it's good or not?

Some books I want to read but don't need to keep, they're entertaining perhaps but not insightful.  Other books, I bought but wish I hadn't, and others, I was dubious of, but now I've read I really appreciate.

Personally, I'd find it more rational to lend a little, to someone trustworthy of stable reputation, and not have to fund The Philbilly Hellmouth's luxurious lifestyle.

Of course that book, is one previously trashed on the forums, but most forum ppl are passive and few trouble themselves to review books.

The Philbilly's book has one purpose, one alone.  That is to take to a Tourney, where you are unknown, and plan to fumble with chips, you shall consult this "Meisterwerk" and quote from it liberally to enhance your table image, until thou hast built a Monster-Chip-Stack!

So your saying that I could be waiting awhile to have that relevation moment with that work....oh dear.

Still some people collect stamps, for me it's books, and um anything else that I can preceive an eventual use for whether real or imaginary.  We recently had our loft re-insulated and the amount of boxes that came down was truly frightening.

Have just order 4 more from Amazon, I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of Harrington's vol 3, The Tao of Poker, Weighting the odds and finally Tourament poker the art of war.  So hopefully I'll have a few more book reviews to do soon.

No, wasn't saying that.  Just think it's more rational to save some money, and keep some trees alive!

Speaking of books...

What are truly "classics" in that little section of the bookstore that deals with gambling/games of chance?

Certainly, Super System I/II and Caro's Book of Tells.

Some may argue that Theory of Poker is a classic.

So I have those three, which are Blue, Red, and Yellow.  Primary colors.  What irony!

But what do the books teach us?  How to play exactly like Brunson, Caro, and Sklansky?  Not really.

They teach us how to play better.  I don't play "by the book" when I play, be it Hold'em, Stud, or Draw.  In fact, it is becoming increasingly difficult to even FIND a draw game recently.

But I try my best to play strong, because all three/four of these books stress one thing overall.  Aggression.

Some say you should play tight (Sklansky, for instance).  Some say you should play loose (Brunson, for instance).

Some say you should mimic other players, some say you should have your own unique style.

Because Phil Hellmuth wrote a terrible piece of poker literature, does that make him a worse player?

Not necessarily.  In fact, reading his book could have repercussions that none of us can conceive of at this early a point.  His book may hold insights to how HE plays poker, and if so, that information would be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to me, because it gives me a line on his play.

Why do you think Brunson charged $100 for Super System when it first came out?

Because it was worth it, because he put into words what pro players were thinking back then.

I'm not a "pro" player. But if I had the money, I'd buy every book/video on the market, from Cloutier to Harrington, solely for the information about that player.

As usual I'm long-winded.  Forgive me.

Good luck to all.
